Directorate of Health expands use of WebTV

In response to the Swine flu pandemic, the Norwegian Directorate of Health used web TV as an important mode of communication to keep the press and public updated.

Norwegian Health Director Bjørn-Inge Larsen and medical doctor Bjørn Iversen from the Norwegian Institute of Public Health took part in a series of press conferences broadcasted online in April and May. Also, joining the webcast was Bjarne Håkon Hanssen, Minister of Health and Care Services.

The Directorate's choice of using Web TV for this purpose emphasizes the ease, practicality and benefit of communicating online via Web TV. Important information becomes immediately accessible for private viewers and other media outlets within minutes.

In the past, the Directorate mainly used Web TV for their conferences, but the recent urgency to provide immediate information during the Swine flu outbreak has given rise to a new use for their Web TV.

For these press conferences, they opted for Smartcom:tv’s "standby news package" which involves two producers and the necessary equipment to ensure around the clock availability for all necessary news alerts.

Live broadcasting of the press conference was distributed to a number of online media sources which included Aftenposten TV among others.
